Funding Care

We’re here to offer comprehensive guidance on care costs and available options.

Our home managers are ready to have an open conversation with you to explore these options ā€” just reach out to schedule a chat at a time that suits you best.

At Beeches Care Home, we simplify the process of exploring funding options for your care.

Our team is here to assist you with understanding the different funding paths, including NHS and local authority contributions.

We’re dedicated to providing the guidance you need to make informed financial decisions about your care.

For your convenience, we’ve compiled answers to frequently asked questions about care funding and fees.

Determining the cost of care at Beeches Care Home involves considering each individualā€™s needs and financial situation.

The type of care required, the choice of care home, and personal finances all play a role in the final cost. Local authority support varies by location, impacting the overall cost.

A financial assessment conducted by your local authority will be necessary, which can be done at your home or in the hospital, and it's often helpful to have a relative or friend present for support.

At Beeches Care Home, nursing care is an enhanced level of service that caters to residents with more complex health needs.

This option includes the constant presence of qualified nursing staff, day and night, ensuring attentive and specialized care.

While this comprehensive care comes at a higher cost compared to residential care, it offers the added reassurance of continuous professional health support.

Depending on your assets and the amount of capital you own, your care will either be funded by your local authority (state-funded) or by the person going into care (self-funded).

This can be a complex area, and if youā€™re in any doubt or feel very stressed about this question, please get some help.

We provide a list of specialist organisations.

There is also an option to be partially state-funded, with the remainder of the fees to be self-funded by a ā€˜top-upā€™.

This, again, depends on the amount of money you have and the value of your assets. If the amount of capital you own falls under a particular threshold, most care fees will be state funded.

If the amount of capital you own is above the threshold, you will be asked to fund your care.

What funding can I receive? Your local authority will offer you a means-tested financial assessment when looking at the financial support they can offer.

If you feel nervous about this, ask a trusted friend or family member to attend the assessment.

The authority will want to conduct a means-tested financial assessment of your needs and finances.

Hereā€™s the financial proof that theyā€™ll be looking at to work out your total capital:

  • Savings and income (including pension, benefits and earnings)
  • Property owned (this will not be included if you still live with your partner)
  • Investments Business Assets Land Owned The amount of capital you own Funding entitlement

Funding Entitlement Breakdown:

  • Less than Ā£14,250 Your local authority will fund the care costs.
  • Between Ā£14,250 and Ā£23,250 You may be entitled to some financial help from your local authority.
  • More than Ā£23,250 You will be expected to self-fund the care costs.

In general, the cost of a care home includes:

  • Living CostsĀ ā€“ Accommodation, catering, cleaning, laundry and utilities. Remember, as bills go up in the outside world, these will also impact your care costs.

  • Costs of CareĀ ā€“ either residential, nursing and/or dementia care.

  • Wellbeing and ActivitiesĀ ā€“ Activities are vital for promoting a feeling of wellbeing, and theyā€™re an excellent way to encourage you to interact with other residents, but naturally, they do come with a cost. Wellbeing Coordinators ensure a regular schedule of activities which stimulates residents mentally and physically.Ā Activities are at the heart of person-centred care to ensure you or your relatives can transition to their new residential care lives and live as happily and independently as possible.

Additional Expenses
Extra services including hairdressing, private chiropody, and costs of newspapers and toiletries etc. will incur additional fees not covered by standard fees, in the same way that you had to pay for these when living in your own home.

Some homes have an all-inclusive status, which means the additional services mentioned above are included in the flat weekly rate. Ensure youā€™re clear on what costs are included and what are in addition to the care home fees.

Any deposits and/or administration fees, which the care home may also require, depend on the provider. Good care providers will always supply a complete list of care home costs, what is included and when it needs to be paid. Ask for this list from your provider then youā€™ll have peace of mind that you know what youā€™ll be paying and when.

Moving Into a Home

At Beeches Care Home, we conduct a pre-admission assessment at your home or hospital to tailor our care to your specific needs.

This assessment covers your medical history, personal preferences, and any likes or dislikes, often involving a family member for additional insight.

Before you move in, the care home manager will provide all necessary information, including any restrictions on personal items you can bring to ensure a smooth transition into the home.

  • Pre-Move Reflection: Engage in closure activities with friends or family to gracefully close one chapter of your life before starting the next.

  • Clothing and Possessions: Label all clothing to avoid misplacement of your valued items.

  • Personalization of Space: Check with the care home if you can bring personal furniture items to make your space feel more like home.

  • Communication Maintenance: Compile a list of people you wish to keep in regular contact with and share it with the home manager to facilitate communication.

  • Address Updates: Redirect your mail and inform your friends and family of your new address.
