GWENS 103rd Birthday
Celebrating a Century and Beyond: Gwen Turns 103!
On the 13th of January, a special celebration lit up our Care Home – Gwen, our beloved resident, marked her 103rd birthday!
Surrounded by the warmth of family and friends, the day was filled with joy and reminiscing.
Gwen’s journey began in West Yorkshire, where she spent he early years before moving to Croston, Lancashire, to be closer to her loved ones. Her life has been a tapestry of rich experiences and enduring love.
At 19, as World War II unfolded, Gwen bravely enlisted in the Armed Forces. She spent five magical years in Edinburgh, an experience she fondly recalls. Post-war, she married her sweetheart, Ken, in 1945.
Together, they raised two sons and created countless memories, from family holidays in Scarborough to adventures abroad.
Professionally, Gwen was as versatile as she was dedicated. From managing a dry-cleaning firm to working for an optician, she embraced each role with vigor. Even in retirement, her spirit of service shone brightly as she volunteered at a local charity shop.
Gwen’s zest for life extends to her family of six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Impressively, she was behind the wheel until the age of 96, often seen zipping out for shopping trips or enjoying a pub lunch.
Her talents don’t end there! Gwen is an accomplished embroiderer, her skill earning her numerous prizes at local village shows.
When asked about the secret to a long, happy life, Gwen’s advice is simple yet profound: “Be thankful, be happy, and don’t do anything you don’t want to do.”
Gwen’s 103rd birthday was a testament to her spirited life – celebrated with family, friends, fish and chips, and, of course, a generous slice of birthday cake. Gwen celebrating her birthday with family and friends.

FAREWELL TO A SPECIAL MAN CALLED ALAN
Alan’s memorial day was a poignant reminder of the impact he had on our Care Home community. In a heartfelt gesture of respect and remembrance, Alan’s family invited our staff to be an integral part of his farewell.
As the procession began, every member of our team lined up outside, a silent tribute to a man who touched our lives deeply.
We watched as he embarked on his final journey, carried gracefully in a horse-drawn carriage to Charnock Richard Crematorium, where his family gathered to bid their last farewells.
Alan was the epitome of a true gentleman.
His presence was a beacon of support and kindness to both residents and staff alike. He was a soul who thrived in the company of others, especially during our entertainment days.
Always the first to extend a hand for a dance, his chivalry and charm were unmatched.
But it wasn’t just his actions that left an indelible mark on us; it was also his unique sense of humor. Alan had a knack for lighting up the room with his words and antics, bringing smiles and laughter even on the cloudiest of days.
As we bid goodbye to our dear friend, we do so with heavy hearts. Alan, you will forever be a part of our Care Home’s story, etched in our memories and conversations.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Your legacy of warmth, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
